Study 2: Kingdom Priorities — Living Under the King’s Rule (Matthew 6)
Matthew 6 sits at the center of the Sermon on the Mount (chapters 5–7), where Jesus lays out the ethics and inner life of citizens of God’s Kingdom. In contrast to religious performance for human approval, Jesus calls his followers to a genuine, hidden devotion directed toward their Heavenly Father. For a Jewish audience steeped in Torah observance, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, Jesus is not abolishing these practices — he is radicalizing and purifying them. The repeated phrase “your Father who sees in secret” is the heartbeat of this chapter.
