Series Length: 6 weeks

Central Passage: Nehemiah 1-6 (with emphasis on chapters 2-3)

Series Goals:

Help adults identify spiritually vulnerable areas in their lives

Equip believers for effective spiritual warfare

Provide practical steps for handling trials with faith

Create a framework for ongoing spiritual vigilance and growth

Visual Elements Needed:

Map of ancient Jerusalem showing gate locations

Diagram of gates in sequence around the wall

Handouts for each session with reflection questions

Timeline of Nehemiah’s ministry

WEEK 1: SURVEYING THE DAMAGE

*“When the Gates Are Broken” - Nehemiah 1-2*

Opening Hook (5 min):

Show images of broken fences, unlocked doors, breached security. Ask: “What happens when your home has no working locks or gates?” Connect to spiritual vulnerability.

Main Teaching (25 min):

I. The Historical Context (5 min)

Jerusalem destroyed by Babylon (586 BC)

Gates burned, walls broken for 140+ years

Nehemiah’s response: grief, prayer, action (Neh 1:3-4)

*Map Activity*: Show Jerusalem’s location, surrounding enemies

II. What Broken Gates Represent Spiritually (10 min)

A. Loss of Protection

No defense against enemy attacks

Unable to regulate what enters/exits

Ephesians 6:11 - “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil”

B. Shame and Reproach

Nehemiah 2:17 - “Ye see the distress that we are in…come, and let us build”

Lost testimony before the watching world

1 Peter 2:12 - Having our “conversation honest among the Gentiles”

C. Spiritual Complacency

Living with brokenness for 140 years

Revelation 3:17 - Laodicean church: “thou sayest, I am rich…and knowest not that thou art wretched”

D. Every Area Compromised

Not just one weakness—total vulnerability

All 10 gates destroyed = comprehensive spiritual collapse

III. Nehemiah’s Response: A Model for Spiritual Assessment (10 min)

A. He Wept and Mourned (Neh 1:4)

Grieving over spiritual condition

Not accepting brokenness as normal

B. He Prayed and Fasted (Neh 1:4-11)

Confession of corporate sin

Claiming God’s promises

Asking for favor and success

C. He Conducted a Personal Inspection (Neh 2:12-15)

Nighttime survey—honest, private assessment

Examining the extent of damage

Planning for restoration

Application (10 min):

Personal Reflection Exercise (silent reflection):

Distribute handout with these questions:

1. When did you last do an honest spiritual “inspection” of your life?

1. Have you become comfortable with any “broken gates” (areas of vulnerability)?

1. Which areas of your spiritual life feel most under attack right now?

1. What “reproach” (damaged testimony) might unbelievers see in your life?

Interactive Element:

Break into groups of 3-4. Share (as comfortable): “One area where I know my spiritual ‘gate’ needs repair is…”

This Week’s Assignment:

1. Daily Prayer Focus: Each day, pray Nehemiah’s prayer (Neh 1:5-11), personalizing it for your situation

1. Personal Inspection: Spend 30 minutes alone with God asking Him to reveal broken areas

1. Journal Prompt: “The spiritual ‘gates’ I need most urgently to rebuild are…”

1. Scripture Memory: Nehemiah 2:17 - “Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.”

Closing (5 min):

Prayer for:

Eyes to see our true spiritual condition

Grief over sin and compromise

Courage to begin the rebuilding process

Unity as we rebuild together

WEEK 2: THE FOUNDATION - ENTERING AND EQUIPPING

*“The Sheep Gate, Fish Gate, and Old Gate” - Nehemiah 3:1-6*

Opening Review (5 min):

Briefly recap Week 1: broken gates = spiritual vulnerability

Share testimonies: “What did God reveal to you this week?”

Visual Setup:

Display Jerusalem map highlighting these three gates and their locations relative to the temple.

Main Teaching (30 min):

I. THE SHEEP GATE - The Gate of Salvation (10 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:1)

Built by the high priest Eliashib and priests

They “sanctified it” (set it apart as holy)

Nearest to the temple

Led to sheep market (for temple sacrifices)

B. Spiritual Significance

John 10:7-9 - “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved”

The ONLY entrance to spiritual life

Foundation for everything else

No other gate matters if you haven’t entered here

C. When This Gate Is Broken

False assurance of salvation

Religious activity without relationship

Matthew 7:21-23 - “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord…”

2 Corinthians 13:5 - “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith”

II. THE FISH GATE - The Gate of Evangelism (10 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:3)

Faced the Mediterranean Sea

Where fishermen brought their catch

Commercial gate—contact with outside world

B. Spiritual Significance

Matthew 4:19 - “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men”

Natural progression: Sheep Gate → Fish Gate (saved → sharing)

Acts 1:8 - “Ye shall be witnesses unto me”

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20)

C. When This Gate Is Broken

Inward-focused church

Fear of man overcomes fear of God

Lost missionary zeal

Comfortable Christianity that doesn’t reach out

Romans 10:14 - “How shall they hear without a preacher?”

III. THE OLD GATE - The Gate of Sound Doctrine (10 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:6)

Also called “Gate of the Old City” or “Jeshanah Gate”

Represented established foundations

Connection to historic Jerusalem

B. Spiritual Significance

Jeremiah 6:16 - “Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths”

Jude 3 - “Earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints”

2 Timothy 4:3 - Warning against those who won’t endure “sound doctrine”

Holding fast to:

Biblical truth

Historic Christian orthodoxy

Apostolic teaching

Time-tested doctrines

C. When This Gate Is Broken

Doctrinal drift and compromise

Ephesians 4:14 - “Tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine”

Acceptance of false teaching

Following trends instead of truth

2 Timothy 4:3-4 - Itching ears, turning from truth to fables

Application (15 min):

Personal Reflection Exercise:

Distribute handout with three sections:

SHEEP GATE ASSESSMENT:

1. Can you articulate clearly how and when you entered through the Sheep Gate (your salvation testimony)?

1. Do you have assurance of salvation based on God’s Word, not feelings?

1. Rate your confidence (1-10): “I know that I know I am saved”

FISH GATE ASSESSMENT:

1. When was the last time you shared the gospel with an unbeliever?

1. Who are three unsaved people you’re praying for regularly?

1. What fears or obstacles keep you from evangelizing?

1. On a scale of 1-10, how mission-minded are you?

OLD GATE ASSESSMENT:

1. Can you identify three core doctrines you would “contend earnestly” for?

1. How much time do you spend studying sound doctrine vs. popular Christian trends?

1. What theological books or sound teaching have you engaged with in the past year?

1. Are there any areas where your beliefs have drifted from biblical truth?

Group Discussion (10 min):

Groups of 4-5 discuss:

Which of these three gates feels strongest in your life?

Which feels most broken or neglected?

How do these three gates connect and depend on each other?

This Week’s Assignments:

1. Sheep Gate Assignment:

Write out your salvation testimony (1 page)

Memorize Romans 10:9-10

If uncertain about salvation, meet with a pastor/leader this week

1. Fish Gate Assignment:

Pray daily for 3 specific unsaved people by name

Initiate one spiritual conversation this week

Memorize Matthew 4:19

1. Old Gate Assignment:

Read a chapter from a doctrinally sound book (suggestion list provided)

Review your church’s statement of faith

Memorize 2 Timothy 4:3-4

1. Journal Prompts:

“My salvation story is…”

“The biggest obstacle to sharing my faith is…”

“One doctrine I need to understand better is…”

Closing Prayer (5 min):

Pray for:

Assurance of salvation for any doubting

Boldness in evangelism

Love for sound doctrine and truth

Protection from false teaching

WEEK 3: THROUGH THE VALLEY - TESTED AND CLEANSED

*“The Valley Gate and Dung Gate” - Nehemiah 3:13-14*

Opening Review (5 min):

Recap: Sheep Gate (salvation), Fish Gate (evangelism), Old Gate (doctrine)

Testimonies: “Did anyone have an evangelistic conversation this week?”

Teaching Hook:

Show images of beautiful valleys and deep, dark valleys. Ask: “What makes valleys necessary in geography and in spiritual life?”

Main Teaching (30 min):

I. THE VALLEY GATE - The Gate of Trials and Humility (15 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:13)

Overlooked the Valley of Hinnom (Gehenna)

Lowest point around Jerusalem

1,000 cubits (1,500 feet) of wall rebuilt here

Required most extensive repair work

B. Spiritual Significance: THE VALLEY OF TRIALS

Psalm 23:4 - “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death”

James 1:2-4 - “Count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience”

1 Peter 1:6-7 - Trials prove and refine faith like gold in fire

Romans 5:3-5 - Tribulation → patience → experience → hope

C. What Valleys Accomplish

1. Break Pride

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 - Paul’s thorn in the flesh

Valleys reveal our weakness and God’s strength

1. Deepen Dependence on God

We learn to trust when we can’t see

Proverbs 3:5-6 - “Lean not unto thine own understanding”

1. Produce Christlike Character

Suffering produces perseverance

Hebrews 12:11 - “No chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous…nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness”

1. Prepare Us for Ministry

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 - Comforted to comfort others

Our valleys equip us to help others through theirs

D. When This Gate Is Broken

We avoid necessary trials

OR we’re crushed/embittered by difficulty

Can’t handle adversity with faith

Complain instead of trusting

Miss what God wants to teach us

Comparison: Job (maintained faith) vs. Job’s wife (“curse God and die”)

II. THE DUNG GATE - The Gate of Repentance and Holiness (15 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:14)

Southernmost gate

Lowest gate in elevation

Where all refuse and waste were taken out of the city

Led to Valley of Hinnom (city dump)

Repaired by Malchiah, ruler of Beth-haccerem

B. Spiritual Significance: REMOVING SIN

Taking out the spiritual garbage

Ongoing sanctification

1 John 1:9 - “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”

Psalm 51:10 - “Create in me a clean heart, O God”

C. What Must Go Through This Gate

1. Sinful Actions

Colossians 3:5-9 - “Mortify therefore…put off all these”

Specific sins named: fornication, evil desire, anger, malice, lying

1. Sinful Thoughts and Attitudes

2 Corinthians 10:5 - “Casting down imaginations…bringing into captivity every thought”

Matthew 5:28 - Heart purity, not just outward behavior

1. Worldly Entanglements

1 John 2:15-17 - “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world”

James 4:4 - “Friendship of the world is enmity with God”

1. Ungodly Influences

1 Corinthians 15:33 - “Evil communications corrupt good manners”

Psalm 1:1 - Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in ungodly counsel

D. The Humility of This Gate

Lowest gate = dealing with sin requires humility

Must acknowledge it’s “dung” (filthy, worthless)

Philippians 3:8 - Paul counted all as “dung” compared to knowing Christ

No excuses, no justification—just removal

E. When This Gate Is Broken

Tolerating sin in our lives

Making excuses: “It’s not that bad,” “Everyone does it”

Compromising with the world

Lost holiness and separation

Hebrews 12:1 - Can’t run the race with “weights” and “sin which doth so easily beset us”

Spiritual powerlessness (sin quenches the Spirit)

Connecting Valley Gate and Dung Gate:

Often God uses VALLEYS (trials) to reveal the DUNG (sin) that needs removing

Trials expose what’s really in our hearts

Suffering can either purify us or embitter us, depending on whether we use the Dung Gate

Application (15 min):

Personal Reflection Exercise: VALLEY GATE

Silent reflection (5 min) - distribute handout:

1. Current Valleys: What trial or difficulty are you facing right now?

Health issue?

Financial pressure?

Relationship conflict?

Disappointment or loss?

Ministry frustration?

1. Valley Responses: How are you responding?

□ With faith and trust

□ With complaining and bitterness

□ With avoidance or denial

□ With dependence on God

□ With self-reliance

1. Valley Lessons: What might God be trying to teach you through this valley?

1. Scripture for Your Valley: Which promise do you need to claim right now?

Psalm 23:4?

Romans 8:28?

James 1:2-4?

2 Corinthians 12:9?

Personal Reflection Exercise: DUNG GATE

Silent reflection (5 min):

1. Sin Inventory: Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what needs to go out the Dung Gate:

What secret sin am I tolerating?

What thought patterns dishonor God?

What worldly entertainment or influences should I remove?

What relationships are pulling me away from God?

What “respectable” sins do I excuse (pride, gossip, materialism, worry)?

1. Humility Check:

Am I calling this sin “dung” or am I minimizing it?

Am I making excuses or taking responsibility?

Have I confessed it specifically to God?

1. Action Plan:

What specific sin will I confess and forsake this week?

What practical step will I take to remove it?

Who will I ask to hold me accountable?

Group Discussion (5 min):

Groups of 3 (same gender if possible):

Share (as comfortable) one valley you’re in and how you want to respond faithfully

Share one area where you know you need to “take out the trash”

Pray for each other

This Week’s Assignments:

1. Valley Gate Assignments:

Daily: Pray through Psalm 23, personalizing verse 4

Write: “What I’m learning in this valley is…”

Action: Thank God for one specific trial you’re facing

Memorize: James 1:2-4

1. Dung Gate Assignments:

Daily: Pray Psalm 139:23-24 - “Search me, O God, and know my heart”

Confession: Spend time in 1 John 1:9, specifically confessing revealed sin

Action: Remove one ungodly influence from your life this week (cancel a subscription, delete an app, end a toxic relationship pattern)

Memorize: 1 John 1:9

1. Combined Exercise:

Journal: “The sin God exposed through my recent trial is…”

Journal: “The character quality God is developing through this valley is…”

1. Accountability:

Find an accountability partner this week

Share one area of struggle

Give them permission to ask you about it

Closing Prayer (5 min):

Lead the group in a prayer of:

Submission - Accepting valleys as part of God’s plan

Trust - Believing He works all things for good

Confession - Honestly bringing sin to light

Cleansing - Asking for purification and holiness

Strength - Requesting power to walk through valleys faithfully and remove sin decisively

Homework Reminder:

“This week will be hard. We’re dealing with trials and sin—two uncomfortable topics. But broken Valley Gates and Dung Gates leave us defenseless. Be courageous. Do the work. God will meet you there.”

WEEK 4: FILLED AND FORTIFIED

*“The Fountain Gate and Water Gate” - Nehemiah 3:15, 26*

Opening Review (5 min):

Recap: Valley Gate (trials) and Dung Gate (repentance)

Brief testimonies: “What did God reveal or what dung did you remove this week?”

Acknowledge: “Last week was heavy. This week is about refreshing and filling.”

Teaching Hook:

Show images of desert → then oasis with flowing water.

Quote: “After we’ve walked through valleys and dealt with sin, we desperately need refreshing. God provides it.”

Main Teaching (30 min):

I. THE FOUNTAIN GATE - The Gate of the Holy Spirit (15 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:15)

Led to Pool of Siloam and King’s Pool

Water source for the city

Spring-fed fountain (living water, not stagnant cistern)

Repaired by Shallun, ruler of Mizpah

He “built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof”

B. Spiritual Significance: THE HOLY SPIRIT AS LIVING WATER

1. Jesus’ Promise

John 7:37-39 - “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive)”

John 4:14 - “Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life”

1. The Spirit’s Work in the Believer

Indwells (1 Corinthians 6:19) - “Your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost”

Seals (Ephesians 1:13) - Guarantees our salvation

Fills (Ephesians 5:18) - Empowers for living and serving

Guides (John 16:13) - Leads into truth

Comforts (John 14:16) - The Comforter

Produces Fruit (Galatians 5:22-23) - Character transformation

Empowers (Acts 1:8) - For witness and service

Teaches (John 14:26) - Brings things to remembrance

Intercedes (Romans 8:26) - Prays through us

1. Fresh Water vs. Stagnant Water

Fountain = continual fresh supply

Not yesterday’s experience but today’s filling

Jeremiah 2:13 - Don’t forsake the “fountain of living waters” for “broken cisterns”

C. When This Gate Is Broken

1. Spiritual Dryness

Going through motions without power

Religion without relationship

Duty without delight

1. Self-Effort Christianity

Trying to live holy in our own strength

Galatians 3:3 - “Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”

Zechariah 4:6 - “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD”

1. Joylessness

Lost the joy of salvation (Psalm 51:12)

Burdensome Christian life

Nehemiah 8:10 - “The joy of the LORD is your strength”

1. Powerlessness

Can’t overcome temptation

Can’t witness effectively

Can’t produce spiritual fruit

Like trying to run a car without gas

D. How to Keep This Gate Open

1. Daily Filling (Ephesians 5:18)

“Be filled” is present continuous - “keep being filled”

Not a one-time experience but daily dependence

1. Don’t Quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19)

Unconfessed sin blocks the Spirit’s work

That’s why Dung Gate must work before Fountain Gate flows freely

1. Don’t Grieve the Spirit (Ephesians 4:30)

Bitterness, anger, malice grieve Him

Walking in love keeps fellowship fresh

1. Walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16)

Moment-by-moment yielding

Constant communion with God

II. THE WATER GATE - The Gate of God’s Word (15 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:26)

Only gate that needed NO repair!

Nethinims (temple servants) lived nearby

Faced east toward Gihon Spring

Site of the great revival (Nehemiah 8:1-18)

B. Why the Water Gate Needed No Repair

God’s Word is perfect and unchanging

Psalm 119:89 - “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven”

Isaiah 40:8 - “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever”

Matthew 24:35 - “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away”

We don’t fix Scripture; we build our lives on it

Everything else may crumble, but the Word stands

C. Spiritual Significance: THE BIBLE

1. The Word Cleanses

Ephesians 5:26 - “Sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word”

John 15:3 - “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you”

Psalm 119:9 - “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word”

1. The Word Nourishes

Matthew 4:4 - “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”

Jeremiah 15:16 - “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart”

1 Peter 2:2 - “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby”

1. The Word Guides

Psalm 119:105 - “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path”

Psalm 119:130 - “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple”

1. The Word Transforms

Romans 12:2 - “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works”

1. The Word Empowers

Hebrews 4:12 - “The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword”

Ephesians 6:17 - “The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”

D. The Great Revival at the Water Gate (Nehemiah 8)

Read together: Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 9-10

The people gathered as one (unity around the Word)

Ezra read from the Law (expository teaching)

All the people could hear (clear communication)

From morning until midday (6+ hours! They were hungry)

The people stood up (reverence)

Levites gave the sense (explanation and application)

The people wept (conviction)

They were told to rejoice (grace)

They obeyed and celebrated (obedience)

Result: Revival, covenant renewal, confession of sin, worship

E. When This Gate Is Neglected (Even Though It’s Not Broken)

The gate didn’t need repair, but the people still needed to gather at it

We can have a perfect Bible and never read it

1. Biblical Illiteracy

Don’t know what the Bible says

Can’t defend against false teaching

Hosea 4:6 - “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”

1. Spiritual Weakness

No wisdom for decisions

No power to resist temptation (Jesus quoted Scripture to defeat Satan)

No stability in trials

1. Worldly Thinking

Conformed to culture instead of Scripture

Entertainment and news shape us more than the Bible

1. Stunted Growth

Hebrews 5:12-14 - Still on milk, not meat

No maturity or discernment

F. The Connection: Spirit and Word Work Together

The Spirit uses the Word (Ephesians 6:17 - “sword of the Spirit”)

The Spirit inspired the Word (2 Peter 1:21)

The Spirit illuminates the Word (1 Corinthians 2:10-14)

The Word directs our dependence on the Spirit

Word without Spirit = dead orthodoxy

Spirit without Word = unguided emotionalism

Both together = power and truth

Application (15 min):

Personal Reflection Exercise: FOUNTAIN GATE

Silent reflection (5 min) - distribute handout:

1. Spirit-Filled Assessment:

Am I currently filled with the Spirit or running on empty?

When did I last sense God’s power and presence?

Rate your current spiritual state:

□ Dry and thirsty

□ Occasional sips

□ Regularly refreshed

□ Overflowing rivers of living water

1. Blockages:

Is unconfessed sin quenching the Spirit? (What sin?)

Am I grieving the Spirit with anger, bitterness, or unforgiveness? (Toward whom?)

Am I trying to live the Christian life in my own strength?

1. Fresh Filling:

Right now, confess any sin blocking the fountain

Pray: “Holy Spirit, fill me afresh right now. I yield control to You.”

What area of your life have you not surrendered to His control?

Personal Reflection Exercise: WATER GATE

Silent reflection (5 min):

1. Word Intake Assessment:

How many days this week did you read the Bible? ___

Average time spent daily in Scripture: ___

Last time you memorized a verse: ___

Current Bible reading plan: □ Yes □ No

Do you have a consistent time and place for Bible reading?

1. Word Engagement:

Do you read the Bible:

□ Not at all / very rarely

□ When I feel like it

□ Out of obligation/guilt

□ With hunger and expectation

When you read Scripture, do you:

□ Just check the box

□ Ask God to speak to you

□ Meditate on what you read

□ Apply it to your life

□ Study it deeply

1. Honest Questions:

What keeps you from reading the Bible more?

□ Too busy / no time

□ Don’t know where to start

□ It’s boring / I don’t understand it

□ Other distractions are easier/more entertaining

□ Spiritual dryness

What would have to change for you to prioritize God’s Word?

Group Exercise (5 min):

Groups of 3-4:

1. Share: “The last time I felt genuinely filled with the Spirit was…”

1. Share: “One obstacle to consistent Bible reading for me is…”

1. Pray for each other for fresh filling and renewed hunger for God’s Word

1. Create a Bible Reading Habit:

Set a specific TIME: ____________

Choose a specific PLACE: ____________

Minimum commitment: ____ minutes daily

Put it in your calendar/set a phone reminder

1. Engagement Exercise:

Each day, practice the S.O.A.P. method:

Scripture - Write out one verse that stands out

Observation - What do you notice about this verse?

Application - How does this apply to your life today?

Prayer - Pray the truth of this verse back to God

1. Memorize: Psalm 119:105 - “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

1. Accountability: Text your accountability partner three times this week confirming you read your Bible that day.

COMBINED ASSIGNMENT:

Read Psalm 119 (longest chapter in the Bible—all about loving God’s Word)

Notice how the Psalmist’s passion for Scripture is Spirit-empowered

Journal: “What would my life look like if I loved God’s Word the way Psalm 119 describes?”

Challenge:

Go 7 days without missing your Bible reading time. If you miss a day, start the 7-day count over. Can you make it to 7 consecutive days?

*“By Your Spirit, through Your Word, make me the person You’ve called me to be. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”*

Final Encouragement:

“You cannot win spiritual battles running on empty. The Fountain Gate (Spirit) and Water Gate (Scripture) are not optional—they are essential. This week, prioritize both. Let God refresh and equip you.”

Distribute:

Bible reading plan handout

S.O.A.P. method example sheet

Card with both memory verses

WEEK 5: READY FOR BATTLE

*“The Horse Gate and East Gate” - Nehemiah 3:28-29*

Opening Review (5 min):

Recap: Fountain Gate (Holy Spirit), Water Gate (God’s Word)

Quick testimonies: “How many made it 7 consecutive days in the Bible? What did God teach you?”

Transition: “Filled with the Spirit and armed with the Word, we’re now ready for the battle we’ve been building toward.”

Teaching Hook (3 min):

Show images: soldier without armor vs. soldier fully equipped for battle.

Read Ephesians 6:10: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”

Note: “We’ve been preparing. Now we face the reality: we are at war.”

Main Teaching (32 min):

I. THE REALITY OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE (7 min)

Before we look at the gates, establish the battlefield reality:

A. We Have a Real Enemy

1 Peter 5:8 - “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour”

John 10:10 - “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy”

Not a cartoon character with pitchfork—a defeated but dangerous enemy

B. The Battle Is Not Physical

Ephesians 6:12 - “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”

Our fight is spiritual, not against people

2 Corinthians 10:3-4 - “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal”

C. Victory Is Already Won, But Battles Remain

Colossians 2:15 - Christ “spoiled principalities and powers…triumphing over them”

1 John 4:4 - “Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world”

We fight from victory, not for victory

Like Israel entering Canaan—victory promised, but battles still required

D. Why We Need the Horse Gate

We can’t be passive

We must actively resist (James 4:7)

We must be equipped and trained

Ignorance of Satan’s devices leaves us vulnerable (2 Corinthians 2:11)

II. THE HORSE GATE - The Gate of Spiritual Warfare (15 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:28)

Located near the king’s palace

Where royal war horses entered

Led to area where horses were kept

Military significance—horses = warfare, power, battle

Priests repaired this gate (every believer is a priest-warrior)

B. Spiritual Significance: SPIRITUAL WARFARE

1. Biblical Images of Horses and Battle

Revelation 19:11-14 - Christ returns on a white horse as conquering warrior

Psalm 20:7 - “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God”

Job 39:19-25 - Describes the war horse: fearless, powerful, eager for battle

1. Our Battle Position - Ephesians 6:10-20 (read together)

Walk through each piece of armor:

Loins girt with TRUTH (v. 14)

Truth about God, yourself, the enemy

Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44)

Lies we believe make us vulnerable

Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS (v. 14)

Living holy protects the heart

Sin gives the enemy access

Practical holiness = practical protection

Feet shod with GOSPEL (v. 15)

Ready to advance, not retreat

Taking territory through evangelism

Firm footing in good news

Shield of FAITH (v. 16)

Quenches fiery darts (temptation, accusation, doubt)

Active trust in God’s promises

Not feelings, but facts from Scripture

Helmet of SALVATION (v. 17)

Protects the mind

Assurance of salvation = hope

Romans 13:11 - “Now is our salvation nearer”

Knowing who you are in Christ

Sword of the Spirit = WORD (v. 17)

Only offensive weapon

Jesus defeated Satan by quoting Scripture (Matthew 4)

Must know it to use it

Hebrews 4:12 - “quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword”

Prayer and Supplication (v. 18)

“Praying always with all prayer”

Warfare prayer, not casual requests

Persistent, Spirit-led intercession

C. Enemy Tactics We Must Recognize

1. Temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13)

To sin, compromise, worldliness

God provides escape—we must take it

1. Accusation (Revelation 12:10)

Satan = “the accuser of the brethren”

Condemns, shames, reminds of past

Counter: Romans 8:1 - “No condemnation”

1. Deception (2 Corinthians 11:14)

Appears as angel of light

False teaching, twisted truth

Counter: Sound doctrine (Old Gate), Scripture (Water Gate)

1. Distraction (Matthew 13:22)

Cares of this world, deceitfulness of riches

Too busy for what matters

Counter: Priorities and discipline

1. Division (1 Corinthians 1:10)

Strife among believers

Offenses, unforgiveness, gossip

Counter: Unity, humility, love

1. Discouragement (1 Peter 5:8-9)

Despair, hopelessness, giving up

Counter: Hope in God, perseverance

D. When This Gate Is Broken

1. Ignorance of Spiritual Reality

Live as if there’s no enemy

Surprised by attacks

Unprepared and vulnerable

1. Defeated Christian Life

Constantly losing battles with sin

Powerless against temptation

Ephesians 6:13 - “Having done all, to stand”—but we’re not standing

1. Unbalanced Views

Either: See demons everywhere (hyper-focused)

Or: Ignore spiritual warfare entirely (naive)

Balance: Aware but not afraid

1. Living in Fear

Afraid of the enemy

Forget: “Greater is He that is in you” (1 John 4:4)

Fear = broken Horse Gate (can’t fight from fear)

E. Strengthening the Horse Gate

1. Know Your Authority in Christ

Luke 10:19 - “I give unto you power…over all the power of the enemy”

Seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6)

James 4:7 - “Resist the devil, and he will flee”

1. Put on the Full Armor Daily

Not once, but daily (Ephesians 6:11, 13)

Pray through each piece

Check for gaps

1. Stay Alert

1 Peter 5:8 - “Be sober, be vigilant”

Matthew 26:41 - “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation”

Know when you’re most vulnerable

1. Fight Strategically

Not every battle needs direct confrontation

Sometimes: flee (Joseph from Potiphar’s wife)

Sometimes: resist (Jesus in wilderness)

Always: submit to God first (James 4:7)

III. THE EAST GATE - The Gate of Hope and Christ’s Return (10 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:29)

Faced east toward Mount of Olives

Also called “Golden Gate” in later history

Direction of sunrise

Connected to temple area

Prophetically significant location

B. Spiritual Significance: THE SECOND COMING

1. Biblical East Gate Events

God’s Glory Departed Eastward (Ezekiel 10:18-19)

Because of Israel’s sin

Glory left through east gate

Judgment came

God’s Glory Will Return Eastward (Ezekiel 43:1-4)

“The glory of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east”

Restoration and kingdom

Jesus Ascended from the East (Acts 1:9-12)

From Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem

“This same Jesus…shall so come in like manner”

Jesus Will Return to the East (Zechariah 14:4)

“His feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east”

Splits the mountain

Establishes kingdom

1. The Blessed Hope

Titus 2:13 - “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ”

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 - The rapture: “We which are alive and remain shall be caught up”

1 John 3:2-3 - “When he shall appear, we shall be like him…every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself”

1. Living with Eternal Perspective

Colossians 3:1-2 - “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth”

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 - “Our light affliction…worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory”

Matthew 6:19-21 - “Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven”

Philippians 3:20 - “Our conversation [citizenship] is in heaven”

C. When This Gate Is Broken

1. Earthly-Minded Living

Philippians 3:19 - “Who mind earthly things”

Living as if this world is all there is

Focused on temporal, not eternal

1. Lost Urgency

No evangelistic passion (time is short!)

No urgency about holiness

2 Peter 3:11 - “What manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness”

1. Hopelessness in Trials

Forget: “this too shall pass”

Romans 8:18 - “The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed”

Valley Gate is bearable when East Gate is secure

1. Worldly Compromise

James 4:4 - “Love of the world”

Accumulating treasures here instead of there

Living for comfort now instead of glory then

D. The Connection: Horse Gate and East Gate Work Together

Horse Gate without East Gate = Fighting without hope

Wear out in the battle

“What’s the point?”

Discouragement wins

East Gate without Horse Gate = Hope without readiness

Passive waiting

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 - Some quit working because “Jesus is coming”

Not watching vigilantly

Both Together =

Fight faithfully BECAUSE He’s coming

1 Corinthians 15:58 - “Be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding…forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain”

Revelation 22:20 - “Even so, come, Lord Jesus” + fighting until He does

Application (15 min):

Personal Reflection Exercise: HORSE GATE - WARFARE ASSESSMENT

Silent reflection (7 min) - distribute handout:

1. Armor Check (Ephesians 6:14-17)

Rate each piece of armor (1=weak, 10=strong):

Truth (Do I know and believe God’s truth?): ___/10

What lies am I believing about God, myself, or my situation?

Righteousness (Am I living holy?): ___/10

What unconfessed sin is giving the enemy access?

Gospel Readiness (Am I advancing or retreating?): ___/10

Am I sharing my faith or hiding it?

Faith (Am I trusting God’s promises?): ___/10

What doubts or fears am I entertaining?

Salvation (Do I have assurance and hope?): ___/10

What accusations or condemnation am I accepting?

Word (Can I wield Scripture in battle?): ___/10

How many verses can I quote from memory?

Prayer (Am I praying persistently?): ___/10

Am I praying reactively (only when attacked) or proactively (constantly)?

2. Current Battles

What specific temptation are you fighting right now?

Where does the enemy seem to attack you most?

What time of day/situation makes you most vulnerable?

3. Battle Strategy

What Scripture verse will you memorize to fight this specific battle?

What accountability do you need?

What trigger/situation should you avoid?

Personal Reflection Exercise: EAST GATE - ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE

Silent reflection (5 min):

1. Hope Assessment

Do you genuinely long for Christ’s return? Or would it feel inconvenient?

When was the last time you thought about heaven?

Rate: How often do you think about eternity vs. temporary things?

2. Living in Light of Eternity

If Jesus returned today, what would you wish you had done differently this past week?

What are you investing in that won’t matter in 100 years?

What could you do that WILL matter for eternity?

3. Treasure Check (Matthew 6:19-21)

Where is most of your time going? (Eternal or temporal?)

Where is most of your money going? (Eternal or temporal?)

Where is most of your thought-life going? (Eternal or temporal?)

Be specific: What treasure are you laying up in heaven right now?

Group Exercise (3 min):

Pairs (preferably same gender):

1. Share one specific spiritual battle you’re facing

1. Share one way you need to live more “East Gate focused” (eternally-minded)

1. Pray Ephesians 6:10 over each other: “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might”

This Week’s Assignments:

*“I will fight with eternal perspective.”*

*“I will live ready for my King’s return.”*

*“I will stand firm until He comes.”*

*“Even so, come, Lord Jesus.”*

Final Charge:

“This week, you WILL face spiritual attack. You’ve been preparing for five weeks. You know the gates. You’ve identified the broken areas. Now—FIGHT. Not in your strength, but in the power of His might. And remember: every battle you fight matters for eternity. He’s coming soon. Fight like you believe it.”

Distribute:

Daily Armor Prayer guide

WEEK 6: STANDING READY - THE FINAL INSPECTION

*“The Gate Miphkad and Fortifying All Gates” - Nehemiah 3:31; 6:15-16*

Opening Review (7 min):

Recap all previous gates briefly (2 min)

Testimonies (5 min):

“Share one spiritual battle victory from this week”

“How did thinking about Christ’s return change your perspective?”

Teaching Hook (3 min):

Show image of a completed fortress with soldier standing guard.

Quote Nehemiah 6:15-16 - “So the wall was finished…And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof…they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.”

“Today we complete the circuit of Jerusalem’s gates and ask: Are we ready? Are our lives fortified?”

Main Teaching (30 min):

I. THE GATE MIPHKAD - The Gate of Inspection and Accountability (15 min)

A. Historical Details (Neh 3:31)

Name means “appointment,” “muster,” or “inspection”

Also translated “Inspection Gate” or “Muster Gate”

Where troops were mustered and inspected before battle

Where quality control happened

Examination, assessment, accountability

Near the temple—final gate before entering God’s presence

B. Spiritual Significance: JUDGMENT AND ACCOUNTABILITY

1. The Judgment Seat of Christ (For Believers)

2 Corinthians 5:10 - “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

Romans 14:12 - “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”

1 Corinthians 3:12-15 - Works tested by fire

Gold, silver, precious stones = eternal value, survive

Wood, hay, stubble = temporal value, burn up

Salvation secure, but rewards at stake

“He himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire”

Not about salvation (settled at Sheep Gate)

About stewardship - what did you do with what God gave you?

1. What Will Be Inspected?

Our Words (Matthew 12:36)

“Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account”

James 3:1 - Teachers judged more strictly

Our Works (1 Corinthians 3:13)

“Every man’s work shall be made manifest”

Quality, not just quantity

Motive matters (1 Corinthians 4:5)

Our Stewardship (Luke 19:11-27 - Parable of the Pounds)

Time - How did you spend it?

Treasure - How did you invest it?

Talents - How did you use them?

Opportunities - How did you respond?

How We Treated Others (Matthew 25:31-46)

“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”

Acts of service and love

Secret Things (Romans 2:16)

“God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ”

Hidden motives, private thoughts

1 Corinthians 4:5 - “Bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts”

1. The Rewards at Stake

Crowns Mentioned in Scripture:

Crown of Life (James 1:12; Rev 2:10) - For enduring trials, martyrdom

Crown of Righteousness (2 Tim 4:8) - For loving His appearing

Crown of Glory (1 Pet 5:4) - For faithful shepherding

Incorruptible Crown (1 Cor 9:25) - For self-discipline

Crown of Rejoicing (1 Thess 2:19) - For soul-winning

Ruling and Reigning (2 Timothy 2:12; Revelation 20:6)

Faithful here = responsibility there

Luke 19:17 - “Have thou authority over ten cities”

Heavenly Treasure (Matthew 6:20)

What we laid up

What we invested eternally

“Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21)

The commendation we long for

Entering into the joy of the Lord

1. Living with Miphkad Awareness

Healthy Fear of God

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 - “Fear God, and keep his commandments…For God shall bring every work into judgment”

2 Corinthians 5:11 - “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men”

Not paralyzing fear, but reverent awe

Motivation for Holiness

2 Peter 3:11 - “What manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness”

1 John 2:28 - “When he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed”

Perspective on Suffering

Romans 8:18 - “The sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed”

2 Corinthians 4:17 - “Our light affliction…worketh…an eternal weight of glory”

Urgency in Service

John 9:4 - “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work”

Redeeming the time (Ephesians 5:16)

C. When This Gate Is Broken

1. Careless Living

Living as if no one’s watching

“What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” mentality

Forgetting that everything is seen and recorded

1. Wasted Life

Living for temporal pleasure instead of eternal reward

1 Corinthians 3:15 - Life that burns up, nothing remains

Getting to heaven but empty-handed

1. Presumption

“I’m saved, so it doesn’t matter how I live”

Cheap grace without discipleship

Galatians 6:7 - “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”

1. Lost Accountability

No one examines your life

Hidden sin stays hidden

Proverbs 27:17 - “Iron sharpeneth iron” — but not happening

II. THE COMPLETED WALL - NEHEMIAH’S EXAMPLE (8 min)

A. The Work Was Finished (Nehemiah 6:15)

52 days total

Despite opposition, discouragement, threats

Everyone worked together

Each family had their section

B. The Enemy’s Response (Nehemiah 6:16)

“Much cast down in their own eyes”

They perceived “this work was wrought of our God”

When believers rebuild broken gates, the enemy is defeated

C. Dedication of the Wall (Nehemiah 12:27-43)

Great celebration

Two choirs walked the wall in opposite directions

Met at the temple

Sacrifice and worship

Joy heard from afar

D. Ongoing Vigilance (Nehemiah 7:1-3, 13:6-31)

Gates repaired, but must be guarded

Watchmen appointed

Gates opened and closed at proper times

Later: Nehemiah returns to find compromise again

Lesson: Rebuilding is not enough; we must remain vigilant

III. THE CIRCUIT COMPLETED - ALL 10 GATES TOGETHER (7 min)

*[Display visual: Map showing all 10 gates around Jerusalem]*

Walk through the complete spiritual journey:

1. SHEEP GATE - Salvation (Enter here or not at all)

1. FISH GATE - Evangelism (Share what you’ve received)

1. OLD GATE - Sound Doctrine (Build on firm foundation)

1. VALLEY GATE - Trials/Humility (Tested and humbled)

1. DUNG GATE - Repentance/Holiness (Remove sin)

1. FOUNTAIN GATE - Holy Spirit (Filled with power)

1. WATER GATE - God’s Word (Fed and guided)

1. HORSE GATE - Spiritual Warfare (Fight the battle)

1. EAST GATE - Christ’s Return (Live with hope)

1. MIPHKAD GATE - Judgment/Accountability (Ready for inspection)

Each gate depends on the others:

Can’t fight (Horse) without being filled (Fountain/Water)

Can’t be holy (Dung) without walking through valleys

Can’t evangelize (Fish) without salvation (Sheep)

Can’t live accountably (Miphkad) without all the others functioning

ONE BROKEN GATE compromises the whole defense system.

Application (20 min):

FINAL PERSONAL ASSESSMENT - “Walking the Wall”

Distribute comprehensive handout with all 10 gates:

TOTAL SCORE: ___/100

Interpretation:

90-100: Strong walls, maintain vigilance

70-89: Good foundation, some repairs needed

50-69: Significant vulnerabilities, urgent attention required

Below 50: Walls badly broken, intensive rebuilding needed

YOUR WEAKEST GATES (Lowest 3 scores):

1. -----

1. -----

1. -----

These are where the enemy will attack. These need immediate attention.

Group Exercise - Accountability Commitments (10 min):

Break into groups of 3 (same gender):

Instructions:

1. Share your total score (optional)

1. Share your ONE weakest gate (required)

1. State ONE SPECIFIC action you’ll take this week to strengthen it

1. Exchange contact information

1. Commit to checking in with each other this week

Example:

“My weakest gate is the Dung Gate (holiness). Specifically, I’m tolerating bitterness toward my coworker. This week, I will confess this to God daily and pray for that person instead of rehearsing offenses. I’m asking you to text me Wednesday and ask how I’m doing with this.”

This Week’s Final Assignments:

1. REBUILD YOUR WEAKEST GATE

Focus intensively on your lowest-scoring gate

Review that week’s teaching notes

Do the assignments you may have skipped

Pray specifically for God to strengthen this area

Report progress to your accountability partner

2. CREATE A PERSONAL VIGILANCE PLAN

Answer these questions in writing:

Daily: What will I do every day to maintain my walls?

(Example: Morning prayer/armor, Bible reading, evening examination)

Weekly: What weekly rhythm will keep me strong?

(Example: Church attendance, small group, Sabbath rest, accountability check-in)

Monthly: How will I assess my spiritual health monthly?

(Example: Re-take the 10 Gates assessment, extended time in prayer/fasting, spiritual direction meeting)

Annually: What yearly practice will ensure ongoing growth?

(Example: Spiritual retreat, extended Bible study, ministry evaluation)

3. MEMORIZE THE 10 GATES

Memorize the gates in order with their meanings:

1. Sheep - Salvation

1. Fish - Evangelism

1. Old - Doctrine

1. Valley - Trials

1. Dung - Holiness

1. Fountain - Spirit

1. Water - Word

1. Horse - Warfare

1. East - Hope

1. Miphkad - Accountability

4. PREPARE FOR THE JUDGMENT SEAT

Write answers to these questions:

If I stood before Christ today, what would I wish I had done differently?

What am I doing now that will matter for eternity?

What am I doing now that will burn up as wood, hay, and stubble?

What one change would make the biggest eternal difference?

5. SCRIPTURE MEMORY - FINAL VERSES

Memorize both:

Romans 14:12 - “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”

2 Corinthians 5:10 - “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

6. PASS IT ON

Teach someone else about the 10 Gates:

A family member

A friend

Your small group

A person you’re discipling

Use the map handout and explain how the gates represent spiritual life.

Closing - Nehemiah’s Prayer and Commissioning (10 min):

Corporate Reading - Nehemiah 1:5-11 (read responsively)

*Leader reads odd verses, congregation reads even verses*

Final Charge:

*“Church, we’ve walked the walls of Jerusalem together. We’ve identified the broken gates in our lives. We’ve learned what each gate represents. Now comes the critical question: Will you rebuild?*

*Nehemiah didn’t just mourn over Jerusalem’s broken walls—he got a plan from the king, he gathered resources, he recruited workers, and he BUILT. For 52 days, despite mockery, threats, and opposition, they built.*

*Your spiritual walls won’t rebuild themselves. No one else can do this work for you. Each person must repair their own section.*

*But here’s the good news: Just as Jerusalem’s enemies were terrified when they saw the work was wrought by God, YOUR enemy will be defeated when he sees you’ve fortified your life.*

*The gates are not optional. You cannot say, ‘I’ll focus on the Sheep Gate but ignore the Dung Gate.’ You cannot say, ‘I’ll work on the Water Gate but neglect the Horse Gate.’ Every gate matters. One broken gate compromises the entire defense.*

*So I charge you today:*

[Have everyone stand]

1. *Inspect your walls regularly - don’t let brokenness become normal*

1. *Rebuild what’s broken - don’t delay, the enemy is watching*

1. *Maintain what’s strong - vigilance is not optional*

1. *Guard the gates - assign watchmen, stay alert*

1. *Live ready for inspection - the Miphkad Gate is coming*

*Nehemiah 2:17 says, ‘Come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.’*

*Church, let us build. Let us be strong. Let us be ready.*

*When our King returns—and He IS returning—may He find our gates secure, our walls strong, and our lives ready for inspection.”*

Corporate Commitment Prayer:

*Have the congregation repeat after you:*

*“Lord, I commit to rebuild my broken gates.”*

*“I will not ignore the areas where I’m vulnerable.”*

*“I will inspect my life regularly and honestly.”*

*“I will maintain vigilance against the enemy.”*

*“I will live ready for Your return.”*

*“I will stand before You unashamed.”*

*“By Your grace, I will finish well.”*

*“Come, Lord Jesus. And until You do—I will stand.”*

*“In Jesus’ name, Amen.”*

Closing Worship:

Sing together (or play):

“A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”

“Lead On, O King Eternal”

“The Solid Rock”

Final Benediction:

*“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” (Jude 24-25)*
